AB InBev chooses GreenLine Africa and the Absolicon T160 technology to reduce energy costs and carbon dioxide emissions

The world's largest brewery group, AB InBev, together with Greenline Africa and Absolicon, are to install a solar thermal plant at the company’s greenfield brewery in Maputo in southern Africa. The long-term goal is to dramatically reduce the Group's carbon dioxide emissions.

The brewery group has approximately 175,000 employees and over 200 breweries in 50 different countries.

The AB InBev 100+ Accelerator initiative, where Carbon Action is one of six designated focus areas received over 1200 applications, and GreenLine was selected with Absolicon as one of 17 companies that were selected and attended the Conference in New York. There the participants met AB InBev's senior management to discuss cooperation and negotiate funding for their pilot projects. Each company that qualified was awarded $100,000 for their pilot projects.

The smaller solar collector installation that AB InBev will be installing, will provide the Maputo Brewery in Mozambique with heat for bottle cleaning and reduce the company's heat-related carbon dioxide emissions. The solar heating system will be installed in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

After evaluating the smaller solar collector field at the factory, the next stage is a solar heating system of just over 20,000 sqm with the capacity to save 6,000 tons of CO2 per year.

In June 2019, Greenline Africa signed a framework agreement with Absolicon for the acquisition of a Production Line to manufacture Absolicon's concentrated solar collector T160 solar collectors on site in South Africa. The agreement with InBev is the result of one of the processes that GreenLine has worked on to meet the steps described in the framework agreement with Absolicon.

Greenline Africa is proud to partner with Absolicon as part of the new cohort of the hashtag#100Accelerator by Anheuser-Busch InBev. The pilot will supply Maputo Brewery with a solar thermal system installed during 2020 helping them decrease CO2 emissions. A full system is proposed at 20 000 sqm with the capacity to save 6 000 ton CO2 /year. This exiting news also means that GreenLine Africa can progress in the effort to set up an Absolicon production line in South Africa, which is scheduled to be operational in 2021.
